This review was written by Mr. Stevers—he is an enormous fan of Meg’s so he dug right into the book! Pick up the book through Meg's site.
“Witchy Stitching” is a book that covers cross stitching start to finish and is good for the first timers as well as the experienced stitchers. Author Meg Black has included not only the how-to basics but also a section on “Being Extra” which goes over the use of beads, antiquing your fabric and various customizations (which this stitcher is inspired to try in the near future!) This volume is chock full of stunning photographs and clear illustrations keeping with the macabre theme but with a touch of whimsy and fun.
The terrific assortment of patterns included are nicely grouped and each grouping includes a variety of projects that will appeal to the beginners and accomplished stitchers alike. Each section starts with a bookmark pattern (and there is tutorial on making the actual bookmark) and moves along from there in size and difficulty.
If gothic and haunted isn’t your style there is a Halloween section where the patterns have a vintage and retro look and a great Haunted Holiday chapter that puts a spooky spin on the other holidays through the year. The GingerDead House and Happy Easterween patterns are two standouts for me.
The book closes out with the basics on finishing your newly stitched creation. In short, Meg has put together a beautiful book to teach, inspire, stitch and enjoy!
