I’m SO PLEASED to announce that, together, we provided 12,000 meals to Feeding America! We donated 15% of our profits from Black Friday weekend (4 days) and added a little extra. Since we sent the money in today–on Giving Tuesday–our donation of 6,000 meals has been matched and doubled! THANK YOU!
The Feeding America network provides over 4.3 billion meals annually, helping 1 in 7 Americans facing hunger live more secure and stable lives. Feeding America is the nation’s largest domestic hunger-relief organization. Thanks to donations, the Feeding America network of food banks, pantries and meal programs serve virtually every community in the United States — 40 million people, including 12 million children and 7 million seniors.
There’s more! You may have noticed the Round Up For Charity option at checkout, where you can donate a dollar or more. This will also benefit Feeding America, but on an ongoing basis–we’ll keep it up year-round! Last weekend, 217 of you donated for a total of 2136 MORE meals. That goes directly to Feeding America through the app. Pretty cool!
I hope you feel the joy of giving. Read more about Feeding America here and give a little more if you’re so inclined. Happy Holidays!
It’s #GivingTuesday and we’re giving an unprecedented 50% of our profits of all sales between now and 9:00 pm CST to Feeding America.
I’m cutting it off before midnight because I want to get our donation in early to make sure it’s MATCHED! I chose this charity because it’s close to my heart and gets excellent ratings on Charity Navigator – every dollar really makes a difference. With matching, every dollar equals TWENTY meals! Here’s some more info:
Feeding America is the nationwide network of 200 food banks that leads the fight against hunger in the United States. Together, we provide food to more than 46 million people through 60,000 food pantries and meal programs in communities across America. Feeding America also supports programs that improve food security among the people we serve; educates the public about the problem of hunger; and advocates for legislation that protects people from going hungry. Individuals, charities, businesses and government all have a role in ending hunger. Donate. Volunteer. Advocate. Educate. Together we can solve hunger.
You can also give directly through their site today to have your own donation matched dollar for dollar.
Thank you for helping us making a difference!
I don’t even know what to say about Houston. As a native Dallasite, this hits close to home. It’s heartwarming to see people helping each other when the news and the world has seemed so divisive this summer (or longer). I’m in touch with an old friend who was rescued by boat from his house, which is seems surreal.
One thing that’s been great to see are the pet rescues – have you noticed there seems to be a dog in every boat? I’m so thankful for the Pets Evacuation and Transportation Standards Act, enacted after Hurricane Katrina, that requires FEMA to include pets in evacuations. Because OF COURSE!
There are still a lot of animals of all kinds displaced by the hurricane and they need our help. I’ve decided to donate a portion of our profits from sales this Labor Day weekend (Friday, Saturday, Sunday and Monday) to help our furry friends in need. After a lot of research and advice, we’ve decided to send donations directly to Austin Pets Alive.
Here’s a list of other places that need help, compiled by the always-trustworthy Lifehacker.
Hang in there. Hug each other. Enjoy your Labor Day weekend a little more knowing that your stitching habit is helping some animals in need!
